FAQ

How can I use the energy price forecast API?

To use the energy price forecast API, you need an API key. You can create one after you have registered. The API endpoints are currently available for free. A paid model for forecasts more than two days into the future is planned. You can find the documentation here: Swagger / Open API Documentation

What exactly does the energy price forecast API deliver?

The energy price forecast API delivers the forecast of the Day-Ahead electricity price for the next hours, depending on the selected API endpoint. The forecast is based on historical data and weather data. The forecast is updated every 12 hours. A forecast is only delivered if no real electricity price is available; otherwise the real price is returned.

Note: The API exclusively delivers Day-Ahead market prices (EPEX SPOT). Intraday market prices are not currently supported.

How often is the electricity price forecast updated?

The electricity price forecast is recalculated and updated twice daily, at 03:10 UTC and 15:10 UTC. These two updates per day are necessary because weather forecasts are constantly changing. However, the changes are not significant enough to require updates more frequently than every 12 hours.

When is the actual electricity price for the next day retrieved?

The actual electricity exchange price for the next day is retrieved at 12:10 UTC. Once the retrieval has been successfully completed, the actual price data is preferentially transmitted via the API.

🆕 🆕 15-minute prices from October 2025

From 1 October 2025, real 15-minute electricity prices will be available. Our API already supports the new resolution parameter for selecting the time resolution:

HOURLY (Standard): Hourly average prices

QUARTER_HOURLY: 15-minute intervals

Example: /api/v1/predictions/next_48_hours?resolution=QUARTER_HOURLY

Before 1 October 2025: QUARTER_HOURLY delivers 4 identical prices per hour. From 1 October 2025: Real 15-minute prices enable even more precise energy optimization!

How can I use the API?

You can already use the API easily in EVCC. EVCC helps you charge your electric car when the electricity price is cheap. With our forecast, it works even better and for several days into the future. More information can be found under Integrations.

Is it worth it?

It depends on your electricity consumption and behavior. If you can flexibly adjust your electricity consumption, it is definitely worth it. For example, if you have an electric car and can charge it when the electricity price is cheap, you save money and help to relieve the electricity grid.

How do you make money?

We only earn money through API endpoints more than two days into the future: View pricing. The API endpoints up to two days are available for free.

How can I support you?

What is the correct fixed_cost_cent value from the API interface?

The fixed_cost_cent value is the fixed price per kilowatt hour. This value is added to the calculated EPEX Spot hourly price. It includes all fixed costs of your electricity price per kWh, usually network charges, electricity tax, other surcharges (e.g. EEG) and concession fees. You can find the value using your electricity bill; it varies depending on where you live in Germany. We have set a default value of 15 cents per kWh.

How is VAT handled in the API interface?

VAT is added to the calculated EPEX Spot hourly price and the fixed price. The value is specified as a percentage. The default value is 19%.

Does the subscription renew automatically?

Yes, all subscriptions automatically renew annually at the same price. However, you can cancel at any time before the end of the term.

How can I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time in your account settings. After cancellation, your access remains active until the end of the paid period.

What happens when my subscription expires if I don't renew?

After your subscription expires, you will automatically be downgraded to the free Free plan. Your data will be retained, but features are limited to the Free plan (forecast up to 2 days, 50 API requests per day).

What is the difference between Pro and Business?

The Pro plan (14,99 Euro/year) is designed for private use in one household with 500 API requests per day. The Business plan (50,00 Euro/year) is designed for commercial use and offers unlimited API requests. Both allow extended forecasts up to 4 days in advance.

Will I receive an invoice?

Yes, after every successful payment you will automatically receive an invoice by email. You can also view and download these at any time in your account settings.
